The Spiked Dog Collar
Lee Dobbins

Defined Tag:

The spiked dog collar is typically a collar chosen by owners of large dogs such as Rottweilers and Dobermans to reflect the toughness of these breeds. It's kind of funny, when you think of it because most people think these dogs are quite tough even without this type of collar.  A spiked dog collar on one of these breeds will make them look even meaner. Now if you put a spiked dog collar on a poodle or Chihuahua -  that might be interesting!

These spiked collars are almost always made of leather. They are wider then most so that they can hold the spikes, usually no less than an inch in width. The spikes are usually made of symmetrical nickel or steel plate. The leather is of good quality. It will be thick and likely be oiled to make it fit the dog properly and to feel nice on the animal’s neck. It will be made to last long, stay soft and the spikes will be riveted on so that they will remain in place. The spiked dog collar will also have a D-ring for attaching to the dog’s tags or its leash.

If you want to buy a spiked dog collar for your dog they can be easily purchased at any local pet store or even online.  You can get one that is a little harder than warm by finding one in a different color and you can also choose different lengths of the spikes. For example, a female Rotti might feel more comfortable in a hot pink spiked collar than black.

Oddly the spiked dog collar appeals to people as well and sometimes you will see a young person, in their teens or early twenties, who is wearing a dog collar like others would wear a choker. Styles may change but the young people of any age will always find something different when trying to express themselves.
